The Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) on Monday (8 November) has arrested a tanker vessel over alleged illegal anchoring, reports Manifold Times.
Tanker detained
Johor State Maritime Director, First Admiral Nurul Hizam bin Zakaria, said the tanker was spotted 8.3 eastern nautical miles off Tanjung Siang, Johor.
The Thailand-registered tanker was operated by 14 Thai crew between 25-51 years of age. An initial inspection found the tanker arrived on Saturday (6 November) but failed to present supporting documents to the maritime authorities.
Both Captain and Chief Engineer will undergo further investigations under Section 491B (1)(l) of the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952, where individuals may be fined not exceeding RM 100,000 or face an imprisonment term of not more than two years, or both.
MMEA said it will continue to implement strict rules and regulations to ensure the safety and security of the country’s waters.
