Thursday 28 January 2016, Singapore:

Regional and international energy players to set tone and address investment and infrastructure development opportunities across Asia and Indonesia’s gas markets.

Indonesia’s first mini liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal, Tanjung Benoa Terminal, heralds the start of Indonesia’s efforts to increase gas consumption and investment in its gas infrastructure.

The terminal is expecting a cargo delivery on 1 March, and will come online a week earlier for commissioning purposes.  It echoes sentiments expressed by both Andri Hadi, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Singapore as well as IGN Wiratmaja Puja, Director General of Oil and Gas for the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), during the Spotlight on Indonesia session at Gastech in Singapore last October.

Due to space constraints, the terminal utilises FRSU (Floating Regasification and Storage Units) solutions rather than traditional land based facilities.  This makes it an ideal pilot project for Indonesia to consider how it can utilise similar time and cost effective solutions in other locations to supply its archipelago.

“Indonesia is facing huge challenges converting an export oriented gas industry into one that services increasing domestic energy consumption” comments AG&P’s Director – Advanced Modular Infrastructure, Derek Thomas, “Geographic complications of delivering energy to a widely distributed population will require new and innovative thinking combining cost effective technologies.”

Mr Thomas is just one of 40 international experts and industry players who will address the future of Indonesia’s gas market at the Gas Indonesia Summit & Exhibition (GIS) in Jakarta this March.

The GIS, officially supported by the ESDM and powered by Gastech, will provide a central platform for 300 Indonesian and international players, particularly those with strategic interest in developing and investing in the region’s gas and LNG markets.

The 2 day commercial and technical conference has been developed with the help of Indonesian gas market leaders such as – Pertamina, PLN, Shell, Total, JGC, SMBC, Black & Veatch, E.ON, PT Humpuss, PwC, IIF, GE Oil & Gas, AG&P, GTT and Herbert Smith to address the current and future market condition of Indonesia.

Since its launch at Gastech, the event has received a high level of interest and support from the Asian and international energy community, and 40 speakers are expected to speak at the event.

Speaking ahead of the event, David Morris, Advisory Committee member and Lead LNG Originator, Asia, E.ON Global Commodities SE said, “As a company we see Indonesia as one of the bright spots for future LNG demand in South East Asia and that is why I chose to help out on the Advisory Committee.  I am looking forward to the Gas Indonesia Summit and Exhibition to learn more about what is happening in both the upstream and downstream sectors as well as to hear from those that will influence the country’s future growth”

The Keynote Address delivered by Yuki Sadamitsu Director Petroleum and Natural Gas Division – Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) on the morning of the conference’s opening plenary, will kick off the outlook for Indonesia’s energy industry.  Dialogue is expected between the likes of Rudolf Doloksaribu – General Manager LNG Sales, Pertamina, Sampe Purba, Vice President, Gas Commercialisation, SKK Migas, David J. Santley Sr. Petroleum Specialist, Energy & Extractives, World Bank Group, Andrew Seck Regional Head of LNG, Asia, E.ON Global Commodities SE, Nobuhisa Kobayashi Managing Director – Tokyo Gas Asia Pte Ltd, among some.
