Motor Oil Launches Operations of Largest Multi-buoy Tanker Ship Mooring

  • Motor Oil announced the start of operations of the largest open sea multi-buoy tanker mooring in Greece at its premises in Agii Theodorii, Corinthia, it said on Wednesday.
  • In a statement, the petroleum refinery company said that the moorings are the largest in Greece in terms of size of ships accomodated and of depth.
  • And it said the investment allows greater flexibility to the refinery and can serve tankers with over 300,000 DWT (Suezmax).

Developing the wider region’s economic activity

The new mooring “is a landmark in specialized port facilities in Greece and Europe, and develops the wider region’s economic activity. It also guarantees the greastest security, through active and passive systems, while reducing the environmental footpring,” Motor Oil said. It said it offers seven floating moorings to tie ships to, with real-time supervision and ability to release the ship by remote control, among other features.

In terms of environmental upgrade, the company said that crude oil will be unloaded from tankers through two flexible double-walled tubes.

Then two 32-inch submarine pipes – lying 3 meters below the sea floor and protected with layers of cement and an external cover – will transport the crude to the tap facility on land and from there to the refinery’s storage tanks.

The bottom of the sea has been restored to its initial state, it added.
