After a maiden voyage from Turkey, Russia’s first LNG-powered RoRo, owned by Rosmorport, has landed in Baltiysk as reported by LNG Prime.

Vessel arrival

The 199.9-meter Marshal Rokossovsky was built by Turkey’s Kuzey Star in collaboration with Russia’s Nevsky Shipyard.

According to its AIS data, the vessel arrived in the Baltysk port over the weekend.

The ferry was anticipated to arrive from Turkey’s Tuzla to the Baltic Sea port of Baltysk by the end of January, according to Rosmorport, a Russian state-owned marine infrastructure company.

The first of two ships designed by the Marine Engineering Bureau is the Marshal Rokossovsky.

Freight transportation

In May of last year, Kuzey Star launched the second LNG dual-fueled RoRo General Chernyakhovsky. This vessel is also expected to begin operations later this year.

The Arc4 class ships will have two 300-cbm LNG tanks and will run on both LNG and diesel.

Both ships will transport Russian railway trains as well as other cargoes, including dangerous commodities, in the Baltic Sea. They will run between Ust-Luga and Baltiysk.

According to Rosmorport, the vessels will “enhance transit safety” in the Kaliningrad region by redirecting part of the freight traffic that is presently passing via neighbouring nations to Russian territory.

They would also provide freight transportation in the levels required for domestic use, according to the statement.
