- German ferry operator TT-Line has taken delivery of its first green ship, the LNG-powered Nils Holgersson.
- The yet-unnamed ferry was launched in July last year.
- The ships are equipped with MAN’s dual-fuel, diesel-mechanical engines.
- Operating on LNG, they will have 50% fewer emissions than TT-Line’s previous generation of vessels.
TT-Line, a German ferry company, has received its first green ship, the LNG-powered Nils Holgersson as reported by Offshore Energy.
Environmentally efficient vessel
On March 7, 2022, a ceremony staged by Chinese shipbuilder CMI Jinling handed over the roll-on/roll-off passenger (RoPax) vessel to its owner.
The latest build, named Nils Holgersson, is now officially part of the TT-Line fleet.
“Within the following several days, the ship and its crew will set sail for the Baltic Sea, travelling approximately 11,600 nautical miles to Travemünde,” according to the business.
TT-Baltic Line’s Sea service will use the environmentally efficient vessel.
Dual-fuel vessel
TT-line placed an order for the dual-fuel vessel in 2018, with one option included.
Nils Holgersson began two-week sea trials in November 2021, prior to the delivery in March.
The above-mentioned shipyard is now constructing Nils Holgersson’s sister ship. The boat, which has yet to be named, was launched in July of last year. Each RoPax has a capacity of 800 passengers and over 200 vehicles and trailers, with a length of 230 metres and a width of 31 metres.
The ships are powered by dual-fuel, diesel-mechanical engines from MAN. They will emit 50% less than TT-previous Line’s generation of vessels when they run on LNG.
