The operators of the Gate LNG terminal in Rotterdam, Gasunie and Vopak, have inked a collaboration agreement to build hydrogen import infrastructure in Dutch and German ports, says an article published by LNGPrime.
Import of green hydrogen
A recent agreement between the two companies and HES International to establish green ammonia in the Rotterdam port as a hydrogen carrier.
Along with local hydrogen production, large-scale imports of green hydrogen will become essential for meeting the European Green Deal and Fit for 55 targets, according to a joint statement released by Gasunie and Vopak on Monday.
Focus on developing import
Vopak and Gasunie stated they will concentrate on constructing storage infrastructure that would allow for further distribution of hydrogen to end consumers via pipeline, vessels, road, and rail.
Widespread green energy
The statement released by Gasunie and Vopak said “Open access logistics infrastructure that is available to all market parties is most effective, both from a cost and environmental footprint perspective. It can further accelerate the import and use of green energy to a wide range of end markets.”
