A recent news article published in the Sea Trade Maritime News states that the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) announced that on May 3, P&O Ferries’ Pride of Kent failed another Port State Control reinspection.
Pride of Kent detained
Pride of Kent was detained on March 29 after an initial failed Port State Control inspection, and remained in detention following a failed reinspection on April 13.
The ship failed its initial inspection “due to failures on vessel documentation, crew familiarisation and training, and emergency equipment not functioning properly, indicating a failure of the implementation of a safety management system,” MCA said at the time.
Additional deficiencies found
On the first reinspection, MCA said it “found a number of additional deficiencies including in safety systems and crew documentation.”
On May 3, MCA stated that Pride of Kent had failed its reinspection and will inspect again when requested to do so by P&O Ferries.
Two P&O Ferries vessels are yet to have their full port state control inspections, Pride of Kent is under detention, and five vessels have been cleared to sail.
