Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS) of Singapore has taken receipt of the STL Yangtze, the first of the company’s six new very large ethane carriers (VLECs), says an article published in Offshore Energy.

Reduce greenhouse gas emissions

Hyundai Heavy Industries, a South Korean shipbuilder, delivered the 98,000 cbm newbuilding to its owner in 2020. (HHI).

When compared to conventional marine fuels, all six vessels have dual-fuel ethane propulsion, which reduces greenhouse gas emissions.

Environmentally vessels

The environmentally friendly tankers will transport ethane between the US Gulf Coast and Zhejiang Satellite Petrochemical (STL) in Lianyungang, China, on 15-year charters.

“The delivery of STL Yangtze is a major milestone for EPS as it represents our commitment to maritime’s energy transition with our holistic alternative marine fuels programme to achieve the industry’s decarbonisation goals,” Eastern Pacific Shipping said.

Core segments

In 2021, EPS made 50 asset deals throughout its three primary categories of containerships, dry bulk, and tanker vessels, bringing its fleet under management to over 19 million dwt.

This year, the business has continued to produce dual-fuel and energy-efficient newbuild vessels.

EPS made another contribution to the energy shift earlier this year by prohibiting coal exports on its commercially managed bulkers.
