On May 26, when berthed at Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos, Caribbean, the cruise ship CARNIVAL FREEDOM had a funnel fire early in the morning. Although no one was hurt, passengers were gathered at safety stations and required to wear life jackets as a precaution as reported by Maritime Bulletin.
Fire onboard
The crew extinguished the fire by its own means in less than an hour, according to Carnival Corp. Statement: “Carnival Freedom’s emergency response team quickly activated and extinguished a fire inside the ship’s funnel while the ship was in Grand Turk. All guests and crew are safe, and the ship’s guests were cleared by local authorities to go ashore. We continue to assess the situation.”
