DHT Holdings Inc. said it agreed to sell its DHT Edelweiss vessel for $37 million in a deal that reduces the average age of its fleet while improving its environmental footprint, says an article published on Market Watch.
Remove particulate matter
The Hamilton, Bermuda, crude-oil tanker company said the Edelweiss, a VLCC built in 2008, isn’t fitted with an exhaust-gas cleaning system, also known as a scrubber, which is used to remove particulate matter and harmful components from the exhaust gasses generated by marine engines.
Announced retrofit program
According to information posted on DHT’s website, the Edelweiss is among the oldest of the company’s fleet of 24 vessels.
DHT said that as a result of the sale and a recently announced retrofit program, its entire fleet will be fitted with scrubbers by the first quarter of 2023.
Expects to deliver
DHT said it expects to deliver the Edelweiss to its new owner during the third quarter, adding that it will post a gain of about $6.8 million on the sale, and that the vessel’s bank debt of about $12.2 million will be repaid.
