COVID-19 Continues To Be A Worldwide Health Emergency

The World Health Organization said on Wednesday that COVID-19 remains a global emergency, nearly three years after it was first declared as one.

COVID-19 declaration

On January 30, 2020, the WHO’s emergency committee issued the initial COVID-19 declaration. Such a commitment can hasten disease containment research, funding, and global public health initiatives.

The UN body has recently stated that while instances are declining in some areas of the world, countries must continue to be vigilant and work to immunise their most susceptible people.

Negative affect

Although the epidemic is believed to be ending in some regions of the world, the WHO’s committee stated that it is still a public health event that is negatively and significantly affecting the health of the global population.

Although the weekly mortality toll is at its lowest level since the pandemic began, it was observed that it is still significant when compared to other viruses.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned reporters that “this pandemic has startled us previously and very well may again.”
