Marine biofuel supplier GoodFuels has successfully delivered 145mt of MDF1-100 bio bunker fuel to the MV Calypso during a stop in Rotterdam, The Netherlands in late October as part of a biofuel trial conducted by SAL Heavy Lift, reads an official LinkedIn release.
Successful biofuel trial
“To make this trial a success, SAL has worked closely with its alliance partner Jumbo Maritime. GoodFuels already has years of experience working with Jumbo, as we started building their sustainable biofuels track record in 2019,” said GoodFuels in a social media post.
“It’s great to see biofuels gaining traction in multipurpose shipping, and we applaud SAL for crafting a solid sustainability strategy and putting it into action.”
‘Huge opportunity’ for sustainable biofuels
According to GoodFuels, biofuels deliver an 80% to 90% well-to-exhaust CO2 reduction versus fossil fuel equivalents. The firm forecasts a “huge opportunity” for sustainable biofuels to decarbonise multipurpose shipping in the short and mid-term.
“A big thanks to all the biofuel pioneers in the Jumbo-SAL-Alliance. On to the next one! Together, a better world,” it concludes.
