China has developed an industry that collects and recycles waste such as used cooking oil, thanks to Europe’s efforts to promote green fuel. However, a surge in biofuel imports to the EU has raised concerns about fraudulent exports, with producers worrying about being undercut by Asian companies that mix cheaper feedstocks with fuels and mislabel them to qualify for incentives. Despite incentives making the EU an attractive market, it is challenging to verify what goes into biodiesel, leading to concerns about mislabeled products in the market.
