The H2 Barge 1 entered operation in Rotterdam on 25 May 2023, says an article published on Indiashippingnews.

Zero-emission ship

The 110-metre-long zero-emission ship from Future Proof Shipping (FPS) will sail for Nike several times each week between the Port of Rotterdam and BCTN‘s inland terminal in Meerhout, Belgium.

This is estimated to save 2,000 tonnes of CO2 in annual greenhouse gas emissions.

Next five years

FPS founder Huib van de Grijspaardereceived a certificate with a special A-Zero (A0) emissions label, which is only issued to emission-free vessels, by Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management Mark Harbers.

Future Proof Shipping (FPS) intends to develop and manage a fleet of more than ten zero-emission inland and short-sea vessels during the next five years.

Launched earlier this month

According to a statement from the Port of Rotterdam, Future Proof Shipping is a partner of Condor H2, a project for zero-emission inland and coastal shipping driven by hydrogen. Condor H2 has over 40 partners and was launched earlier this month at the World Hydrogen Summit by a consortium including the Port of Rotterdam Authority.

Condor H2 should enable the operation of 50 emission-free vessels by 2030, resulting in a total yearly CO2 reduction of 100,000 tonnes.
