The Port Authority of New South Wales will implement a uniform method for approving marine pilot ladder arrangements in all ports within the state, effective from October 1st, as reported by DCN.

Pilot ladder-related issues

The Port Authority of NSW has identified pilot ladder-related issues as significant factors contributing to several incidents during pilot transfers. In response, they have released an instruction sheet emphasizing the importance of proper ladder condition, maintenance, rigging, and awareness. Ensuring safe and compliant pilot ladder arrangements is a key focus area for the port authority, as marine pilots play a crucial role in the safe and efficient movement of commercial vessels in NSW ports. The authority acknowledges the existence of industry standards and guidance notes on pilot ladder transfer arrangements.
