A 58-year-old seafarer who suffered a stroke onboard has been medevaced from a containership.
A Polish seafarer suffered some respiratory problems onboard the 67,000 tonne vessel, some 80 nautical miles off Byron Bay. Hence, a crew from the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to medevac the patient.
As the vessel did not have a helipad the crew performed a winch rescue and transported the patient to the Gold Coast University Hospital. The vessel was located at about 72 nautical miles off Cape Byron during rescue.
The extraction had a slight delay due to the ship’s movements and additional flight time.
