Patrick Kennedy was working onboard the Panama flagged vessel when he injured his right hand from hammer while working on the deck.  The cadet was in pain and had been advised for evacuation by the Company Medical Officer.  Hence, the ship Master requested MRCC Mumbai, late Monday, for medical evacuation to prevent formation of gangrene.

At the time of incident, the vessel was anchored at Revdanda anchorage where the seamen are not allowed to disembark or join the ship, as it is not a designated immigration outpost.

So, the Coast Guard coordinated with other agencies to facilitate the approvals for his disembarkation.  ICG spokesman said that: “The evacuation was carried out on Tuesday, and Kennedy was brought to our Murud-Janjira station from where he was taken in an ambulance to hospital by afternoon.”

The cadet is undergoing treatment at Nair Hospital.
