The British Ports Association is set to host its annual coastal shipping seminar during the esteemed London International Shipping Week. The association will seize this opportunity to amplify the virtues and potentialities of escalating freight movement via water.

Annual coastal shipping seminar

The much-anticipated event is scheduled to take place at the London offices of the internationally reputed consultancy, Arup. The seminar promises a confluence of industry leaders and stakeholders from the coastal and short sea shipping domains. The primary focus will be to gauge the current market pulse and probe into the prospects for growth.

Water transport, an archetype of sustainable freight transportation, will be under the limelight for its unparalleled green credentials. As the world pivots towards eco-friendly solutions, the maritime sector steadfastly upholds its indispensable economic significance.

Annually, the UK witnesses the movement of approximately 50 million tonnes of diverse cargo – from timber, steel, fuel, construction materials to waste, and a significant number of containers – traversing its coastal routes. This massive operation notably diminishes road congestion and trims down the miles covered by lorries.

Given the UK’s unique geographical layout, where the coastline is always within a two-hour reach, coastal shipping emerges as a viable alternative for a broad spectrum of cargo types. The UK’s extensive port network further bolsters the feasibility of this transportation mode.

The British Ports Association looks forward to engaging dialogues, insightful discussions, and collaborative efforts that this seminar aims to foster, ultimately envisioning a future where waterborne freight movement takes precedence.
