SLNG to Build and Manage Another Singapore LNG Facility

The terminal will have a gas supply capacity of up to 5 million tonnes per annum.

Singapore LNG Corporation will develop and operate a second Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal in Singapore, Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced.

Unlike the onshore terminal on Jurong Island, SLNG is planning to base the second terminal on a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) concept, meaning it is “essentially an LNG ship with onboard regasification facilities, that will be engaged on a long-term time charter arrangement.” SLNG, however, clarified that the concept is still being studied.

“The FRSU concept offers greater flexibility in meeting the nation’s energy security and sustainability objectives, as it could be easily redeployed to another location as a receiving terminal, if necessary,” SNLG said.

The second terminal will also have a gas supply capacity of up to 5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), or about half of the Jurong Island terminal.

The planned terminal will be connected with Singapore’s gas pipeline grid via an onshore gas pipeline to be installed as part of the project.

SNLG said it will call a tender shortly for the charter of the FSRU and aims to have the terminal operation by the end of this decade.
