  • Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) and Miura Co. jointly developed a microplastic collection device, ‘HQ,’ earning Innovation Endorsement from Class NK.
  • This device, recognized for its seawater processing ability and non-disruptive structure, aims to tackle marine plastic pollution.
  • Both companies are dedicated to marine environmental conservation, aligning their initiatives with global sustainability goals.

Certification Achievement

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) and Miura collaborated on developing a pioneering microplastic collection device, which underwent successful trials aboard the MOL car carrier EMERALD ACE. Recognizing its innovation, Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (Class NK) awarded the device an Innovation Endorsement certification, acknowledging its groundbreaking functionality.

Device Features

Miura’s HQ device, providing seamless seawater processing without system interference, marks a milestone for commercialization after effective trials and initial marketing in July.

The device, named HQ, demonstrated its ability to process seawater continually without hindering existing systems. Miura plans to commercialize HQ following successful trials and began marketing efforts in July.

Environmental Contribution

The device addresses the pressing need for data on marine microplastics (MP). MOL not only collects MP but also contributes data on their composition, amount, location, and timing to aid research on MP reduction and marine environmental conservation. Both MOL and Miura align their initiatives with global marine environmental conservation efforts.
