Wärtsilä, a prominent technology group, is set to supply advanced simulator technology for a new maritime training centre centreland. The South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences (Xamk) and the Joint Authority of Education of Kotka-Hamina Region (Ekami) have placed the order, aiming to enhance practical skills and prepare students for challenging maritime tasks.
Cutting-Edge Simulator Features
The simulator, scheduled for installation in Xamk’s new campus in Kotka, Finland, will incorporate Wärtsilä’s latest Navi-Trainer professional and Techsim simulation software. Additionally, it will feature the advanced Navi Sailor and NACOS Platinum bridge systems, offering multi-pilot workstations for Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS), radar, and conning applications.
State-of-the-Art Training Center
The training centre will boast two large and three medium-sized fullfull-missionigational bridges with 360-degree visualization. This includes digital chart tables and a separate bridge wing console operated in virtual reality. For technical training, two engine room simulators with touchscreen technology will be implemented, facilitating seamless transitions between various engine room models. The simulator system, one of Europe’s largest and most advanced, aims to provide students with a realistic operational experience in a safe educational environment.
Decarbonization Focus and Synergies
With a focus on decarbonization in the maritime industry, Wärtsilä emphasizes the importance of highly competent crews and continuous training programs. The new maritime training centre is supposed to play a crucial role in unlocking synergies and ensuring that maritime organizations can optimize vessel and port operations. Scheduled for delivery in August 2024, this state-of-the-art facility underscores Wärtsilä’s commitment to advancing maritime education and safety.
