As the festive season unfolds, ushering in Christmas markets, company parties, and family reunions, there’s a noticeable shift in the pu sentiment as COVID-19 protection requirements are lifted. However, amidst the merriment, Health Minister Karl Lauterbach issues a cautionary note, emphasizing the persistent danger of the virus.
Optimism Amidst Concerns
A recent survey by YouGov reveals that nearly two-thirds of respondents are less concerned about COVID-19 infections during the Advent and Christmas season 36% express no worries, and 6% remain highly concerned. Despite the relaxed atmosphere, Health Minister Lauterbach underscores the continued threat of the virus and advocates for vigilance.
Call for Caution and Vaccination
Minister Lauterbach urges the public to remain cautious, emphasizing that COVID-19 is not seasonal. As indications point to a significant infection surge, he recommends swift vaccination against both flu and COVID-19, particularly for individuals aged 60 and over with underlying health risks. In the absence of previous requirements, he advises using masks and testing, especially in crowded settings, as an extra layer of protection during the festive season.
