On January 18, the MABUX World Bunker Index, calculated from current prices for 380 HSFO, VLSFO, and MGO, exhibited irregular fluctuations without a consistent trend.
380 HSFO – USD/MT – 501.63 (-2.42)
VLSFO – USD/MT – 636.43 (+0.31)
MGO – USD/MT – 885.69 (-3.11)
HSFO Shifts
As of Jan.18, the MABUX MBP/DBP Index (MDI), which tracks the correlation between market bunker prices (MBP) and the MABUX digital bunker price benchmark (DBP), has indicated the following trends across four selected ports: Rotterdam, Singapore, Fujairah, and Houston.
– HSFO segment: All four selected ports were in the undercharge zone, with underprice premium widening by $3 in Rotterdam and $8 in Houston. MDI index in Singapore and Fujairah has remained unchanged.
VLSFO Shifts
– VLSFO segment: Houston has shifted to the undercharge zone, joining Rotterdam. The underprice ratio has decreased by $ 6 in Rotterdam but increased by $7 in Houston. Singapore and Fujairah continue to be overcharged, with the premium increasing by $16 in Singapore and $ 5 in Fujairah.
MGO LS Shifts
– MGO LS segment: Fujairah has returned to the overcharge zone and is the only overpriced port in this fuel segment. The overcharge margin has risen by $18. The other three ports remained underpriced, with the ratio dropping by $20 in both Rotterdam and Singapore but rising by $4 in Houston.
We expect Global bunker indices to turn to a slight uptrend on Jan.19: 380 HSFO – plus 3-7 USD/MT, VLSFO – plus 3-9 USD/MT, MGO LS – plus 4-9 USD/MT.
