Bouman Industries and Conoship International collaborate to establish Carobotreat Maritime. Focus on building ship-based carbon capture (SBCC) systems for maritime applications, reports Offshore Energy.

Carbotreat Maritime aims to help shipowners reduce CO₂ emissions in both newbuild and existing vessels. Targeting coastal ships smaller than 10,000 kW for SBCC system implementation.

EverLoNG Project Background

Conoship International and Carbotreat, a subsidiary of Bouman Industries, have been EverLoNG project partners since 2021. EverLoNG project focuses on demonstrating SBCC use on LNG-fueled ships and moving closer to market readiness.

Technology and Benefits

SBCC systems claim to reduce shipboard CO₂ emissions by up to 95%. Captured CO₂ can be cooled and stored on board, offering potential reuse.

Collaboration with TNO and Bouman Industries enables large-scale carbon capture and storage plants on ships.

EverLoNG Project Milestones

Installation of SBCC prototype on TotalEnergies’ LNG carrier in 2023. Goal to capture ten tonnes of CO₂ during a 3000-hour test campaign.

Equipment transitioned to Heerema’s LNG-powered Sleipnir crane ship after the initial trial.

Cost-Effectiveness Targets

An ambitious goal is to reduce expenses for CO2 capture and on-board storage below 100 €/ton by 2025 (1st of a kind). Further cost efficiency target of 50 €/ton for subsequent implementations.
