- Tank storage firm Vopak will repurpose part of its Sebarok terminal in Singapore for clients to blend and store marine biofuel.
- Vopak has conducted biofuel trials with customers since 2022 and the terminal’s existing pipeline system has been converted to enable biofuel blending.
Vopak has commissioned 40,000 cubic metres (cbm) of capacity at its Sebarok terminal for the blending of biofuels for the Singapore bunker market, reports Nasdaq.
The Sebarok terminal is located close to the eastern anchorage, where a large part of Singapore’s bunkering activity takes place.
Biofuel Blending
In a statement issued, Vopak added that the existing pipeline system has also been converted to a dedicated biofuel blending service.
Vopak has conducted a range of marine biofuel trials over the past few years and the company said that the new capacity at the terminal is ‘underpinned by customer commitment’.
Rob Boudestijn, President of Business Unit Singapore, said: ‘Our vision for Sebarok terminal is to be a sustainable multi-fuels hub to strengthen Singapore’s position as the top bunkering hub. As a storage and critical infrastructure services provider, this development can facilitate the entry of more biofuels companies to diversify the supply chain for marine biofuels and accelerate the decarbonisation of the shipping industry.’
