Operational Details
The vessel is equipped to run on dual-fuel, offering flexibility in utilizing both LNG and crude oil. The first two tankers of the series, delivered in 2023, are under long-term charter deals with France’s TotalEnergies. Meanwhile, the Hafnia Larvik and the recently delivered Hafnia Lillesand will serve Norway’s Equinor under charter agreements.
Milestone and Commitment to Sustainability
Mikael Skov, CEO of Hafnia, expressed delight at the delivery of the Hafnia Lillesand, emphasizing its significance as the fourth and final vessel in the dual-fuel LNG newbuild series. He highlighted the milestone as a testament to Hafnia’s commitment to sustainability and innovation in the shipping industry. Skov extended gratitude to partners at GSI and CSSC for their collaborative efforts during the project’s construction and delivery.
Naming Ceremony and Blessing
The naming ceremony for the Hafnia Lillesand occurred on February 29, 2024, at GSI Shipyard in Guangzhou, China. Heidi Aakre, Vice President of Shipping at Equinor, acted as the ship’s Godmother, officially christening the vessel and blessing it for future voyages. The ceremony was attended by representatives from Hafnia, CSSC, GSI, Equinor, and other stakeholders involved in the project.
Future Collaborations and Innovations
Looking ahead, Hafnia plans to continue its collaboration with GSI. The company aims to construct four 49,800 deadweight dual-fuel Methanol Chemical IMOII Medium-Range (MR) Newbuilds. This project, done in partnership with “Socatra of France,” is scheduled for delivery in 2025/2026, further demonstrating Hafnia’s commitment to pioneering sustainable solutions in the maritime sector.
