- PMO approves RADClean BWMS.
- Safety measures manage hydrogen produced during electrochemical reactions.
- Type approval covers models capable of treating up to 4,000 m3 per hour
Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) approves RADClean BWMS. Manufactured by Rahavaran Ayandeh Darya Co, reports Rivera.
System Overview
RADClean BWMS utilizes filtration and injection of sodium hypochlorite for ballast water treatment. Safety measures manage hydrogen produced during electrochemical reactions.
A neutralization agent (sodium thiosulphate pentahydrate) ensures safe residual oxidant levels during discharge.
Evaluation Process
Conducted by the Iranian Classification Society (ICS) on behalf of PMO. Reviewed technical documentation, test plans, and reports.
Concluded RADClean BWMS meets BWMS Code requirements for active substances (G9).
Testing Phases
Tested from 2021 to 2023 by the Research Institute of the Petroleum Industry (RIPI).
Land-based testing at RIPI facilities in Iran demonstrated compliance with D-2 standards and system design limitations validation.
Shipboard testing on crude oil tanker Dune confirmed effectiveness in treating ballast water.
Treatment Capacities
Type approval covers models capable of treating up to 4,000 m3 per hour of ballast water.
