Validating Fuel Savings Through Autonomous Navigation

191

For the first time, fuel savings achieved through autonomous navigation have been officially verified. Avikus, a leader in autonomous navigation technology, has successfully quantified fuel savings on a very large ore carrier (VLOC) operating between Singapore and Brazil, utilizing its autonomous HiNAS Control system.

Setting Sail Towards Efficiency: Avikus’ Autonomous Navigation System

Avikus’ HiNAS Control system, powered by artificial intelligence, autonomously manages a ship’s direction and speed, optimizing routes to reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions. This groundbreaking technology marks a significant milestone in the quest for sustainable maritime operations.

Collaboration for Certification: Joint Efforts by Industry Leaders

The verification process was developed collaboratively by HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, Avikus, Pan Ocean, POS SM, and the Korean Register (KR). This certification sets a precedent for the potential of autonomous navigation to address carbon emissions regulations in the shipping industry.

Towards a Greener Future: Implications of Autonomous Navigation Technology

With this certification, Avikus paves the way for the widespread adoption of autonomous navigation technology in the shipping industry. As maritime regulations become more stringent, autonomous systems like HiNAS offer promising solutions to improve fuel efficiency, reduce emissions, and enhance overall sustainability in global shipping operations.
