Starting on 1 April 2024, Silke Lehmköster took over the role of Managing Director Fleet at Hapag-Lloyd, being responsible for Fleet Management, Fleet Innovation & Technology, Chartering, and the Newbuildings Project Group, reports Container News.

Silke Lehmköster replaces Richard von Berlepsch, who will now concentrate on specific projects and committee assignments. She will report directly to Dr. Maximilian Rothkopf, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Hapag-Lloyd AG.

We would like to congratulate Silke Lehmköster and wish her all the best in her new role as Managing Director Fleet. Next to maintaining the highest standards and ensuring the continuous safe and compliant operation of our vessels, one of her big challenges will be to further advance the decarbonisation of our fleet, helping us to achieve our goal of being climate-neutral by 2045. At the same time, we would like to thank Richard von Berlepsch for his passionate and highly professional commitment over the last 40 years,” stated Dr. Maximilian Rothkopf.

Silke Lehmköster embarked on her journey with Hapag-Lloyd in 2005 through a maritime apprenticeship, eventually rising to the rank of captain in 2018. Transitioning to shore-based roles in 2020, she initially held the position of Senior Director of Marine HR before assuming the role of Senior Director of Fleet Management in April 2022.

Now, as Managing Director of Fleet, Silke Lehmköster will oversee fleet management, drive innovation in fleet technologies, and spearhead new construction projects, including the ongoing development of 12 cutting-edge large container ships equipped with dual-fuel technology, boasting a capacity of 23,600 TEUs.
