Germany’s KfW IPEX-Bank continues its commitment to fostering environmentally friendly maritime transportation by extending a €42 million financing package to C. Armateurs, a Switzerland-based shipping group under the Cobelfret umbrella. This funding facilitates the construction of two advanced Kamsarmax dry bulk carriers at Japan’s Oshima Shipbuilding, aligning with stringent environmental standards set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

Fleet Modernization for Sustainability

The financing provided by KfW IPEX-Bank aims at rejuvenating and upgrading C. Armateurs’ fleet, prioritizing efficiency enhancements and emissions reduction. The vessels, compliant with EEDI2 phase 3 ratings and IMO Tier III NOx regulations, exemplify the company’s dedication to meeting evolving industry standards while minimizing environmental impact.

Long-Term Charter Commitments and Operational Impact

Scheduled for delivery in Q4 2024, the two Kamsarmax carriers are already committed to long-term charter contracts, indicating market confidence in their operational capabilities. This strategic investment not only bolsters C. Armateurs’ competitiveness but also underscores the bank’s support for sustainable shipping practices within the maritime sector.

KfW IPEX-Bank’s Ongoing Sustainable Financing Initiatives

Beyond the partnership with C. Armateurs, KfW IPEX-Bank continues to champion sustainability across diverse maritime ventures. Recent endeavours include financing Europe’s pioneering climate-neutral terminal, the Duisburg Gateway Terminal (DGT), and supporting Smyril Line’s innovative e-methanol-ready RoRo vessels. These initiatives demonstrate the bank’s proactive role in fostering climate-friendly solutions and advancing the transition toward CO2-efficient shipping practices.
