French shipbuilder Chantiers de l’Atlantique initiates the construction of OE Corinthian, the first wind-powered cruise ship for Orient Express Silenseas fleet. Steel-cutting ceremony was held in Saint-Nazaire.

OE Corinthian represents a fusion of luxury and environmental sustainability, marking a milestone in cruise ship technology, reports Offshore Energy.

Revolutionary Propulsion System

OE Corinthian features the Solid Sail propulsion system, a groundbreaking technology developed by Chantiers de l’Atlantique.

Utilizes three rigid sails with a surface area of 1,500 m2 each, hoisted on tilting masts reaching over 100 meters high.

Can ensure up to 100% propulsion in favorable weather conditions, enhancing efficiency and reducing environmental impact.

Environmental Innovation

Powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) and prepared for hydrogen propulsion, prioritizing sustainability.

Expected to be the largest sailboat globally, with impressive dimensions: 220 meters in length, 25 meters in width, and a tonnage of 26,600 tons.

Government Support and Industry Collaboration

French government signs wind propulsion pact with maritime stakeholders, affirming commitment to environmental sustainability in the maritime sector.

Objective to capture 30% of the global wind propulsion market share with French technology.

The inauguration of Pôle Sud Intégré (PSI), a new pre-fabrication workshop, underscores the industry’s dedication to green innovation.

Decarbonization and Market Expansion

OE Corinthian exemplifies the convergence of industry and ecology, showcasing foldable sails for minimal emissions.

Decarbonization presents economic opportunities, with Chantiers de l’Atlantique poised to lead in emerging low-carbon maritime markets.

Minister Delegate for Industry and Energy emphasizes the significance of decarbonization and the role of OE Corinthian in shaping the future of maritime transportation.
