  • Finnish shipping company Langh Ship recently took delivery of its third dual-fuel multipurpose dry cargo vessel, Sofia.
  • This vessel can operate on liquefied natural gas (LNG) and conventional marine fuels, offering the potential for sustainable shipping.

Finnish shipping company Langh Ship has expanded its fleet with the delivery of its third dual-fuel multipurpose dry cargo vessel, named Sofia. This new addition to the fleet strengthens the company’s commitment to environmentally friendly and sustainable shipping practices.

Dual-Fuel Capabilities

Sofia is capable of running on both liquefied natural gas (LNG) and conventional marine fuels. The vessel’s flexibility in fuel choices extends to the option of using liquefied biogas (LBG) as a direct substitute for LNG, which supports greener shipping operations.

Future-Proofing Technology

To prepare for emerging technologies and regulations, Sofia is outfitted with preparations for shore power and battery installations. This future-proofing ensures the vessel will remain efficient and environmentally responsible in the coming years.

Vessel Series

Sofia is the third vessel in a series of three dual-fuel multipurpose dry cargo vessels built by Wuhu shipyard in China for Langh Ship. The first vessel in the series, Lovisa, was delivered in November 2023, followed by the second vessel, Olivia, in January of this year.

Utilization in Liner Service

All three vessels will be employed by steel producer Outokumpu in a liner service route between Finland and the Netherlands. This service supports regional trade and demonstrates Langh Ship’s dedication to sustainable maritime operations.
