The Brunvoll propulsion system includes a twin-screw configuration with a controllable pitch propeller, featuring a diameter of 3.9 meters. These propellers are designed to be fully feathering, minimizing drag during sailing. With direct electrical drive and the Thrust-OD Box supplied by Brunvoll, the system ensures optimal performance and efficiency.
Brunvoll sales manager Arnfinn Brautaset expressed pride in the project, highlighting the company’s expertise in propulsion design and efficiency. Close collaboration with Chantiers de l’Atlantique has enabled the development of cutting-edge propulsion solutions for these remarkable vessels.
Vessel Specifications
The first vessel, Orient Express Silenseas, boasts impressive dimensions, measuring 220 meters in length and accommodating approximately 116 passengers. Featuring three sail masts exceeding 100 meters in height and a total surface area of 1,500 square meters, these ships redefine luxury cruise experiences. Moreover, the vessels’ 54 cabins, averaging 70 square meters each, offer unparalleled comfort and elegance.
Environmental Sustainability
Emphasizing environmental sustainability, Orient Express Silenseas chose the Wärtsilä 25DF dual-fuel LNG engine for both vessels. This engine, renowned for its silent operation, compact size, and powerful performance, aligns with the vessels’ commitment to eco-conscious cruising. Chantiers de l’Atlantique project manager Yann Penduff underscored the importance of selecting the Wärtsilä 25DF engine for its environmental benefits and operational excellence.
