- Wärtsilä has teamed up with Gas and Heat and RINA to develop an ammonia-fueled bunkering vessel, aiming to support the logistics and supply of green ammonia in line with IMO and EU environmental strategies.
- Gas and Heat will design the cargo handling system, while Wärtsilä will focus on the integrated propulsion solution, featuring its new Wärtsilä 25 ammonia engine.
- RINA will ensure compliance.
- This collaboration underscores a commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and advancing sustainable maritime solutions.
Wärtsilä, a global leader in power, propulsion, and lifecycle solutions for the marine market, has partnered with Gas and Heat, a leader in the design and construction of cargo handling systems, and RINA, for the development of a new ammonia-fueled bunkering vessel. This ambitious project aims to support the logistics and supply of green ammonia, aligning with the environmental strategies set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the European Union (EU).
Project Details
Under the agreement, Gas and Heat will develop the basic design of the cargo handling system, while Wärtsilä will focus on designing an optimized integrated propulsion solution. The core element of this propulsion system will be Wärtsilä’s newly introduced 4-stroke ammonia engine, the Wärtsilä 25. RINA will carry out the compliance assessment of the design as part of the wider Approval in Principle process.
