Kongsberg Maritime has expanded its range of underwater mountable azimuth thrusters with the addition of the UUC PM 355, featuring a 3.7-meter propeller and a 4.2-megawatt power output. This new thruster is designed for a variety of vessels, including drillships, wind farm vessels, and production vessels.
Key Features and Benefits
The UUC PM 355 is equipped with a permanent magnet (PM) motor, delivering an impressive 81 tonnes of bollard pull. The integrated PM motor allows for a more compact design, requiring less space in the machine room. Pasi Villanen, Product Line Manager at Kongsberg Maritime, emphasized that the new thruster offers increased thrust and straightforward installation while reducing the amount of space needed inside the vessel.
Versatility and Experience
Kongsberg Maritime has over 25 years of experience in developing underwater mountable thrusters that can be exchanged without drydocking, keeping the vessel in the water. The UUC range can be installed at depths of up to 50 meters, making it a versatile choice for various offshore applications.
Efficiency and Environmental Considerations
The PM motor’s responsiveness and efficiency make the UUC PM 355 ideal for Dynamic Positioning operations. The new thruster features low noise operation, reduced lubricating oil volume, and no oil-to-sea interfaces, highlighting its commitment to environmental protection.
Conclusion
The UUC PM 355 thruster by Kongsberg Maritime is set to enhance offshore vessel operations with its advanced design, increased thrust, and environmentally friendly features. Pasi Villanen noted the continued popularity of the UUC range across offshore applications, driven by its ability to minimize downtime and optimize performance.
