Do you know there are ships that transport ships and oil rigs. It is called semisubmersible heavy lift ships which are constructed for these kind of heavy lift operation which includes salvage of damaged ship, transportation of oil rigs, offshore dry docking etc.
One of the biggest semi submersible ship is dockwise vanguard, which uses ballasting technique in the ship pontoon to lower and rise itself for loading and unloading other ships as their cargo.
