TFG Marine, a leading marine fuel provider, has signed a long-term charter agreement with Consort Bunkers for four newbuild methanol carriage-ready bunker tankers. This initiative supports TFG’s strategy to enhance its logistics for low-carbon marine fuels, aligning with global decarbonization goals.
Investment in Low-Carbon Fuel Infrastructure
The 6,500-dwt IMO type 2 tankers, constructed by Merchants Jinling shipyard in China, will be delivered between late 2024 and 2025. These vessels are designed to transport a variety of fuels, including HSFO, VLSFO, MGO, biofuels up to B100, and future liquid methanol.
TFG Marine’s commitment to modernizing its fleet with Mass Flow Meter-equipped tankers highlights its focus on transparency and efficiency in bunkering operations.
Collaboration with Consort Bunkers
Consort Bunkers will operate the new tankers for TFG Marines, enabling methanol bunkering in the Port of Singapore. This partnership supports the upcoming methanol bunker licensing framework by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore. .K. Yeo, Director of Consort Bunkers, emphasized the importance of this collaboration in providing low-carbon fuels and supporting TFG Marine’s leadership in sustainable shipping solutions.
Global Impact and Future Prospects
TFG Marine advocates for the global adoption of Mass Flow Meters to increase bunkering transparency. The company’s recent whitepaper recommends Singapore’s MFM-based system as a model for other ports.
TFG Marine’s agreement with Fratelli Cosulich Group for a methanol dual-fuel bunker barge, set for delivery in late 2025, underscores its ongoing investment in low-carbon fuel infrastructure and its commitment to sustainable maritime practices.
