81

Contract Overview

Brunvoll has agreed with Tersan Shipyard to provide propulsion and maneuvering systems for two new stainless steel chemical product tankers. These vessels, owned by Tune Chemical Tankers (TCT), part of the Tersan Group, will feature Brunvoll’s advanced technologies. The contract also includes an option for two additional vessels.

Vessel Specifications

The chemical tankers, designed by Norden Ship Design House in Istanbul, Turkey, will have an overall length of approximately 150 meters and a loading capacity of 16,500 deadweight tonnes. The vessels are equipped with stainless steel tanks capable of carrying highly corrosive liquids.

Brunvoll’s Contribution

Brunvoll’s scope of delivery for these vessels includes a comprehensive shaft line solution featuring a reduction gearbox, a controllable pitch propeller, a tunnel thruster, and Brunvoll’s state-of-the-art Propulsion and Thruster Control system, BruCon PTC.

Advanced Gearbox Technology

The reduction gearbox is equipped with both Power-Take-In (PTI) and Power-Take-Out (PTO) capabilities, offering a flexible platform that optimizes fuel efficiency while maintaining high performance during maneuvering. The gearbox includes a front-mounted clutch for fully electric propulsion, providing a “take-me-home” functionality in case of engine failure. Additionally, a clutch for the propulsion line allows the main engine and PTO to function as a generator set while the vessels are in port.

Strategic Partnership and Long-Term Benefits

Tune Chemical Tankers, headquartered in Rotterdam, Netherlands, operates a young fleet of 18 chemical tankers. The decision by Tersan, both the shipbuilder and owner, to select Brunvoll reflects their confidence in Brunvoll’s ability to deliver high-quality systems that offer long-term cost benefits. Per Endre Woldsund, Sales Manager at Brunvoll, expressed his appreciation for the collaboration with Tersan and Norden, and the potential for these vessels to serve various industries, including local producers of styrofoam.
