Swiss marine power company WinGD and global shipping giant CMA CGM have announced a ground-breaking collaboration to test the world’s first Variable Compression Ratio (VCR) technology at sea. This innovative technology, developed by WinGD, dynamically adjusts the engine’s cylinder compression ratio based on various factors, resulting in significant reductions in fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional engines.
A Strategic Partnership
CMA CGM, committed to achieving Net Zero Carbon by 2050, will serve as the platform for the VCR technology’s real-world application. The shipping line will install WinGD’s VCR on one of its vessels equipped with a WinGD RT-flex50DF dual-fuel engine. The long-term sea trial is scheduled to commence in September following the ship’s dry-docking.
