  • Carrier Transicold has expanded its BluEdge™ Partner Program with the launch of the Vessel Control Tower (VCT) platform for enhanced remote cargo monitoring.
  • The VCT platform works with Carrier’s Lynx™ Fleet telematics and offers real-time visibility of container refrigeration units and other onboard assets.
  • This has been done to improve operational efficiency by reducing manual monitoring and ensures the safety of perishable goods during maritime transport.

Carrier Transicold intends to improve the supply chain efficiency and optimize cargo safety since it is a leader in intelligent climate and energy solutions.

The Vessel Control Tower (VCT) platform, available through the BluEdge reseller network, ensures comprehensive network coverage at sea, reports Carrier Global Corporation.

What is the Vessel Control Tower (VCT)?

The Vessel Control Tower (VCT) provides ship crews with a clear overview of all connected assets onboard, including not only Carrier Transicold units but also various other equipment. Operating in conjunction with Lynx Fleet, VCT helps refrigerated transporters maintain compliance and accountability for perishable goods such as food and pharmaceuticals.

This platform offers notifications and alerts through an intuitive vessel bay plan user interface for the onboard connected assets. This innovative feature significantly reduces the need for manual monitoring walks, which can be labor-intensive and hazardous for seafarers.

The platform operates using cellular and long-range technology, transmitting data to the cloud effortlessly without requiring APIs. Utilizing a dedicated satellite terminal and service, it offers near real-time monitoring both on land and at the main office

Key Features of the Vessel Control Tower Platform

The VCT technology provides full visibility of connected assets for both crew members and onshore personnel in real time. Its versatility represents a significant advancement in supply chain management, supporting:

  1. Mixed-Reefer Fleet View: Comprehensive oversight of any refrigerated unit equipped with a telematics device.
  2. Mixed-Asset View: Visibility of refrigerated units, dry boxes, gen sets, and other assets with telematics capabilities.
  3. Partner Shipping Line Asset View: Insights into a shipping line’s assets, contingent on a data-exchange agreement.

VCT fills a crucial coverage gap encountered during extended voyages at sea, enabling complete end-to-end remote monitoring of connected assets without the need for laborious checks,” said Tan Bor Yow, Senior Channel Manager at BluEdge, Global Container Refrigeration, Carrier Transicold. “This ensures optimal cargo safety, cost reductions, and improved operational efficiency throughout the voyage, marking a leap in supply chain management.

The VCT system components can be easily reconstructed onto existing equipment and installed on any container vessel within four hours with minimal cabling by an authorized BluEdge Partner.
