BAR Technologies Expands WindWings Portfolio With New Models

120

BAR Technologies has launched new 20m and 24m WindWings® models, following the success of the 37.5m version, to extend wind-assisted propulsion (WAP) technology to a broader range of vessels, such as handysize bulkers and chemical tankers. These new models, expected to save 0.7 tonnes of fuel per day, are designed for both retrofits and new builds, helping shipowners reduce fuel consumption and emissions in line with IMO’s 2030 decarbonization targets.

Key Features of New WindWings®

The new WindWings® models feature a patented rigid wingsail, offering maximum thrust and fuel savings without the need for continuous power. Designed for operational flexibility, the wings are available in foldable and non-foldable versions, powered electrically for simplified installation and high performance. The fail-safe design ensures durability, even in extreme weather.

Market Adoption and Growing Interest

BAR Technologies’ new WindWings® models have attracted strong interest from shipowners, with several companies already in advanced discussions to integrate the technology. These compact models are projected to contribute significantly to decarbonization efforts, offering fuel savings on global routes.

Global Manufacturing and Regulatory Alignment

The new WindWings® will be manufactured in China and Spain starting next year, aligning with global demand driven by regulatory initiatives like the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS). As environmental scrutiny grows, WindWings® offers a scalable, essential solution for the maritime sector’s sustainability efforts.
