HD Hyundai has announced its participation in Gastech 2024, the world’s largest gas exhibition, set to take place in Houston, USA, from September 17 to 20. The event will host around 800 companies and attract over 50,000 attendees from across the globe.

Showcasing Eco-Friendly and Digital Technologies

HD Hyundai’s leadership team, represented by Vice Chairman Chung Kisun, along with senior executives and staff from sales, research and development, and engineering, will be in attendance. They will present the company’s latest eco-friendly technologies to global stakeholders, including shipowners and classification societies, while discussing future development strategies for the maritime and shipbuilding industries.

Exhibition Booth Highlights and Featured Ship Models

The company’s booth at the exhibition will feature models from various HD Hyundai subsidiaries, including HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, HD Hyundai Mipo, HD Hyundai Samho, HD Hyundai Marine Solution, and HD Hyundai Electric. Key highlights will include eco-friendly ship designs, such as next-generation LNG carriers, Floating Storage and Regasification Units (FSRU), and liquefied carbon dioxide carriers.

Key Technical Certifications and Agreements

HD Hyundai is expected to sign multiple technical cooperation agreements and acquire 16 technical certifications during the event, solidifying its leadership in the digital transformation and decarbonization of gas carriers. One of the key approvals will come from DNV, a Norwegian classification society, for the company’s cloud-based digital twin virtual sea trial verification technology, aimed at improving vessel verification through virtual trials of LNG carriers.

Innovations in Ammonia-Powered Ship Safety and Bunkering Vessels

In addition, the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) will grant HD Hyundai an Approval in Principle (AIP) for its unmanned engine room design and safety monitoring solution for ammonia-powered vessels, a design that enhances safety for crews. The company will also receive AIPs from Lloyd’s Register (LR) for the development of a 23,000m³ ammonia bunkering vessel and from the Korean Register (KR) for an 18,000m³ LNG bunkering vessel.

Onboard Carbon Capture and Storage (OCCS) System Developments

HD Hyundai Marine Solution will be recognized for its onboard carbon capture and storage (OCCS) system retrofits, with an AIP from DNV. This certification will allow the company to further expand its eco-friendly retrofit projects.

On the first day of the exhibition, HD Hyundai will host a technical seminar on trends in gas carriers, the status of electric propulsion systems, and the roadmap for vessel digitalization. Additionally, an ‘HD RECEPTION’ event on September 18 and 19 will provide opportunities for clients to exchange ideas on next-generation eco-friendly vessels.

HD Hyundai’s Commitment to Decarbonization and Digital Transformation

HD Hyundai reaffirmed its commitment to innovation in decarbonization and digital transformation. A company official emphasized that HD Hyundai will continue to invest in and develop cutting-edge technologies to contribute to a sustainable future energy ecosystem.
