Over the past week, three incidents of armed robbery against ships in Asia were reported to the ReCAAP ISC, between 10 and 16 September 2024, reports safety4sea.
As informed, two incidents took place onboard bulk carriers while underway in the eastbound lane of the Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS) in the Singapore Strait (SS), and one incident involved a barge towed by a tug boat while underway south of Pulau Mungging, within Johor Port Limit, Malaysia.
With the two incidents in the SS occurring within an hour and 2 nm apart, the ReCAAP ISC issued an Incident Alert on 14 September 2024, advising ships to intensify vigilance and maintain a sharp lookout while transiting the areas of concern.
