MET Group has partnered with Celsius to construct a modern LNG carrier through China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu). This vessel will support MET Group’s expanding LNG activities, including a recent agreement with Shell to purchase US LNG over 10 years. The partnership aligns with MET’s strategy to enhance LNG supply across Europe, with a focus on sustainable and efficient operations.
Expanding LNG Supply in Europe
MET Group is enhancing its LNG supply capabilities with this new carrier, supporting its diverse LNG import infrastructure, which spans Germany, Croatia, Spain, and beyond. In 2023, MET delivered over 30 LNG cargoes across Europe, reinforcing its position in the energy transition.
Celsius’s Role in Sustainable Maritime Investments
Celsius, a leading ship owner, will contribute its expertise in sustainable, fuel-efficient vessels. With one of the largest modern LNG carrier fleets globally, Celsius is committed to supporting energy transition through cost-effective, eco-friendly shipping solutions.
Supporting the Energy Transition
Both MET and Celsius emphasize LNG’s role in Europe’s energy transition. MET Chairman Benjamin Lakatos highlighted the importance of LNG in meeting Europe’s energy needs, while Celsius Chairman Jeppe Jensen pointed out the critical role of efficient LNG carriers in facilitating the green energy shift.
