According to Container News, PSA unboXed, the external innovation and corporate venture capital arm of PSA International, has teamed up with Amperesand, a grid infrastructure solutions provider, to trial solid-state transformer (SST) technology at Singapore’s port. This collaboration aligns with PSA’s efforts to promote sustainable logistics by integrating efficient charging infrastructure for its electric fleet of prime movers.
Pilot Trial of SST Technology to Begin in 2025
The one-year Proof of Value (PoV) trial, set to start in mid-2025, will evaluate the performance and cost-effectiveness of SST in supporting PSA’s charging facilities. The SST technology, known for its use of silicon carbide (SiC) devices and high-frequency modules, ensures efficient power delivery while minimizing grid strain. If successful, the trial could pave the way for expanded electrification efforts at PSA’s ports.
Enabling Smart Energy Management and Sustainable Operations
Amperesand’s SST solution features bi-directional capabilities, facilitating vehicle-to-grid energy management. With a modular and scalable design, the technology offers PSA greater flexibility in distributing power across high-capacity charging stations. PSA aims to leverage these insights to bolster operational resilience and reduce its carbon footprint, ensuring long-term value for stakeholders.
