Shanghai Port and the Port of Hamburg, Germany, announced the establishment of a green shipping corridor. This initiative promotes green transformation, enhances cooperation, and drives sustainable shipping practices globally, reports China Daily.
MoU Details Signed at North Bund Forum
At the North Bund Forum in Shanghai, an MoU was signed by the Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission, Hamburg Port Authority, COSCO SHIPPING Lines Co Ltd, and Shanghai International Port (Group) Co Ltd.
The agreement aims to accelerate green shipping practices between the two ports.
Key Areas of Cooperation
The MoU outlines collaboration in shore power development, infrastructure enhancement for green fuels, and policy frameworks for sustainable refueling.
The partners aim to invite more stakeholders to expand the green shipping corridor initiative.
Hamburg Port’s Vision for Global Impact
Jens Meier, CEO of Hamburg Port Authority, emphasized that the agreement is a model for other ports to follow.
He aimed to create a global network of green shipping corridors.
China’s Commitment to Carbon Reduction
This initiative aligns with China’s “dual carbon” goal of peaking emissions by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2060. Shanghai Port has also formed similar green shipping partnerships with Los Angeles and Long Beach ports.
