The International Group of P&I Clubs (Group) and the Canadian Coast Guard have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to reinforce cooperation in responding to major maritime casualties and incidents. The agreement was formalized in Ottawa, with Mario Pelletier, Commissioner of the Canadian Coast Guard, and Nick Shaw, CEO of the Group, signing on behalf of their organizations.

Focus on Streamlined Maritime Casualty Response

The MoU is part of the Group’s Outreach program, designed to enhance collaboration and effectiveness in handling major maritime incidents such as wreck removal. It aims to create a coordinated approach between national maritime authorities and Group clubs, focusing on efficient casualty response and support.

Joint Preparedness Training for Effective Incident Management

A significant component of the MoU involves joint training initiatives. Experienced personnel from the Group will engage in training workshops and exercises with Canadian Coast Guard teams, promoting unified responses and preparedness for maritime casualties.

Case Study Workshop and Role Identification

Following the signing, representatives from the Group conducted a joint workshop with the Canadian Coast Guard, using a case study to simulate an incident. This exercise highlighted each party’s roles and responsibilities, fostering a shared understanding for future coordinated efforts.
