Shanghai Port continued its strong performance in September, handling 4.25 million TEUs, a 5% year-over-year increase. This brings the total container throughput for the year to 39.10 million TEUs, an 8% increase compared to the same period last year, reports Port Technology.
Container Throughput
The container throughput of Ningbo Zhoushan Port was 3.39 million TEUs last month, a YoY increase of 6.2 percent.
In the first nine months of the year, Beibu Gulf Port had the largest margin of increase, having handled 6.5 million TEUs, a YoY increase of 14.7 percent, while the Port of Xiamen was the only port to record a deficit having recorded a YoY decrease of 3.2 percent, handling 9 million TEUs.
In terms of container freight rates, the average value of Ningbo Containerized Freight Index (NCFI) was 1549.4 points in October 2024, a month-on-month decrease of 12.1 per cent and a year-on-year increase of 138.5 per cent.
Among the 21 routes, the freight index of 7 routes increased month-on-month, and the freight index of 14 routes fell month-on-month.
