Navy Ship Collides with Product Tanker Off Puerto Belgrano

On June 1, Argentinean Navy corvette ARA ESPORA dragged anchor and allided with an anchored freighter in Puerto Belgrano Naval Base area, south of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The Espora reportedly lost control due to high winds and drifted onto the product tanker and struck the bow of the tanker at the port side.

There was no information on damages to the tanker, whereas Espora sustained damages and was taken to the port for assessment and repair.

Other than material damage no report of environmental damage or loss of life has been reported.  Investigation is underway to determine the root cause of the collision.
