The SAFEEN Group, as part of AD Ports Group’s Maritime & Shipping Cluster, joined forces with the DAMEN Shipyards Group to secure the Guinness World Record title for the Most Powerful Electric Tugboat. Bu Tinah achieved a remarkably high peak pull of 78.2 tonnes, setting a new benchmark in electric vessel performance. Specifically, this achievement espouses the efforts of SAFEEN Group in advancing sustainable marine operations, reports Safeen Group.

A Record-Breaking Electric Tugboat

Bu Tinah, designed by Damen Shipyards Group, registered a remarkable bollard pull strength of 78.2 tonnes. This became a world record during trials at Khalifa Port, the flagship facility of AD Ports Group. This feat was scored during ADIPEC. The global energy event, where energy transition and sustainable innovation held center stage this year.

Betterment of Marine Operations

Bearing environmental sustainability as the design basis in mind, Bu Tinah became the first all-electric harbour tug vessel to be built in the Middle East. It produces “Tank to Propeller” zero emissions, thereby reducing the carbon footprint of maritime operations. Besides Environmental benefits, it is also a cost-effective alternative to traditional diesel-powered tugs through cost-saving maintenance and delivery of fuel savings.

Captain Ammar Mubarak Al Shaiba, CEO – Maritime & Shipping Cluster, AD Ports Group, said: “This Guinness World Record™️ achievement demonstrates that the transition to alternative energy does not come at the cost of performance. We are very proud that the first electric tug in the Middle East is also making waves on a global level with this accolade and the fact that in parallel it is improving the sustainability of our operations alongside cost efficiencies in terms of overall fuel saving is extremely important. This vessel is now a key component of our Marine Services fleet and our electrification strategy.”

A Collaborative Vision for Maritime Innovation

Damen is proud to be working with SAFEEN Group on this electric tug project. It accelerates us toward a more sustainable marine industry.” This partnership is perfectly aligned with our shared vision for the future of maritime innovation,” says Arnout Damen, Damen Shipyards Group CEO.

Future Improvements and Business Operations

Bu Tinah has completed a trial period at Khalifa Port and is now fully commissioned. Equipped with the latest advanced electric hybrid battery system, future shore power installations will enhance the environmental friendliness of the vessel itself. This is the first electric tug in the region. Bu Tinah takes one step closer to enabling operations to be more sustainable and efficient while being higher-performing in the Middle East.
